Breakfast program at a school

Tannis, our success coach at an Edmonton school, and Sarah, our youth liaison, noticed that more and more students were hungry. A survey confirmed those suspicions: 20% of students said they were coming to school hungry all or most of the time.

As they understood how hard it is to learn and focus on an empty stomach, they wanted to help. After conversations with the school staff and the parent advisory council, they applied for grants for a breakfast program and donations from the Food Bank. Parents, local businesses, and school staff have committed to donating food on a regular basis.

Thanks to all these efforts, the school will start a universal breakfast program this year to ensure all students can start their day on a full stomach and focus in class. Way to go, Tannis and Sarah!
