Success Coaches PDF Print E-mail

The Family Centre, in partnership with several Edmonton Public Schools and various funders, offers Success Coaches and Aboriginal Commitment Coaches to children and youth who are at risk of having unsuccessful school experiences.  If your child or youth attend a school that has a Coach, they may have the opportunity to access this service.

The outcomes of the Coaches interventions are that children and youth become positively engaged with their school, resulting with them attending school, succeeding academically, reducing high risk behaviour, increasing internal and external resources, developing positive goals and to begin to see themselves as having the potential for future success.

Key Interventions:  (include but not limited to the following)

  • Provide support through relational interactions, activities and play
  • Develop innovative and creative programming to meet the individual needs of the youth and/or school
  • Identify resiliency capacities and coping skills for youth to build on
  • Support and promote healthy lifestyle choices
  • Teach healthy boundaries, social skills, positive expression of emotion, effective communication and problem solving skills
  • Support youth with transition:  new school, new grade level, new teacher
  • Liaison between the school, caregivers and youth
