Family Aide

The Family Aide Program provides support to families that are referred by Child and Family Services.  These families either have Family Enhancement Agreements or Core Protection Status.

Our Family Aide Workers teach skills such as communication, problem solving, emotional well-being, assertiveness, conflict management, age appropriate discipline and appropriate parenting.  We also teach and role model behaviour management, age appropriate discipline and parenting teens.

In addition to this we teach life management skills such as budgeting, employment, nutrition, meal preparation, home management, self-care/health and leisure.  Family Aide Workers provide supported home visits for children and youth in care to foster healthy relationships by empowering the emotional bond between child/youth and caregivers.

Family Aide Workers advocate on behalf of children, youth and families both with Child and Family Services and externally within community.  We also connect families and increase the knowledge base and use of community resources and natural supports.

Throughout involvement Family Aide Workers assess and monitor ongoing risk to children and assist parents in identifying risk factors to prevent abuse from occurring.

Family Aide Workers focus on issues concerning:

  • Inadequate parenting skills or communication skills
  • Low or limited family functioning
  • Isolation
  • Limited or ineffective financial management
  • Mental health issues that inhibit ability to parent
  • Inadequate provision of basic needs
