Bridges Mother Support Program
The Bridges Mother's Support Program is a short-term program to assist mothers with rest and recovery following a complicated birth.
Who Qualifies?
- Women who have experienced a complication with their birth. (c-section, multiple birth, etc.) and ...
- who have
Little or no in-home support from family or community.
How Am I Referred?
- Your Healthy Beginnings Nurse will determine if you qualify and can refer you to the program.
- Bridges is an appointment-based service with a minimum 24-hour advance notice required.
- You can accept or refuse service if you wish.
What Is Provided?
- Up to 15 hours of in-home help, minimum visit is 3 hours.
- Most mothers decide to divide their time into five separate visits.
- We assist you with your new baby, with older children, with light housekeeping or with doctor appointments and other errands.
- The worker can also provide you with emotional support, answer questions you might have, or help you find the answers.
Who Will Be Helping Me?
You will receive assistance from a Home Support Worker from The Family Centre. Staff have all been screened and trained. They are experienced in working with children, babies and doing light housekeeping.
Are There Time Restrictions?
Yes, you can be referred up to one month after the birth of your child or two months if you are suffering from postpartum depression. If your child was born prematurely, you can be referred up to a month from the baby's date of discharge from hospital.
- Once you begin service, you have three weeks to use your allotted hours.
What Happens When Service Ends?
Workers will assist you in connecting with community resources and services should you require this.
