Success Coach (Open until Filled) Competition # 938
As a Success Coach working in a school setting and the community, you would be responsible for developing relationships with students, in order to support them to become engaged within the school community, attend school, begin to succeed academically, reduce high risk behaviours, increase positive behaviours, develop positive goals, and begin to see themselves as having the potential for future success. This position reports to the Manager of the Community Youth Initiatives program at The Family Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. The Success Coach will be working in partnership with Northern Lights School Division and be placed in two schools in Bonnyville, Alberta.
Qualifications:
- Degree/Diploma in Child and Youth Care or equivalent education and experience
- Knowledge of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome an asset
- Standard First Aide and Suicide Intervention Training
- Police Security Clearance and Child and Youth Information Systems Check
- 2 years experience working with youth
- Eligibility for membership in a professional organization
- Effective communication skills with a wide range of individuals
- Ability to work in an integrated service team
- Knowledge of community resources and cultural activities
- Computer Literacy
- Caseload management skills (formal and informal)
Key Responsibilities (include but not limited to the following):
- Establish therapeutic relationships through role modeling, mentoring and supporting
- Work with youth on a 1:1 basis, through specific group programming and universal school programming
- Support youth with transitioning into new grade and/or school
- Develop innovative and creative programming to meet the individual needs of the school
- Seize opportunities to support youth through relational interactions, activities and play
- Promote a healthy view of education & facilitate success in the school setting & with exploring their future career opportunities
- Support youth to develop a sense of identity and cultural awareness
- Connect youth to adult mentors
- Strengthen and promote relationships by empowering and nurturing emotional attachments between the youth, their school and their natural support system
- Engage families to participate in their child’s learning, the school environment and family activities
- Practice within the Resiliency Framework Philosophy, identifying resiliency capacities and coping skills for youth to build upon
- Provide opportunities for healthy peer interaction.
- Advocate on behalf of the youth and teach them to be their own advocate
- Teach boundaries, healthy sexuality, social skills, academic skills, communication, problem solving, positive decision-making and anger management techniques
- Support and promote healthy lifestyle choices
- Connect youth to beneficial, affordable and sustainable community resources to increase their network of support

The person in this position supervises a direct service program by assigning and managing cases, recruiting, training and supervising staff, maintaining tracking systems, and monitoring trends and issues within the program.
Qualifications:
- Degree or the equivalent in Human Services
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge of Children’s Services
- Demonstrates organizational skills and have strong communication, interpersonal and computer skills
Compensation is based on the current scale of ($41,358) to ($56,353) annually based on experience.

Residential Services - Child and Youth Care Worker (open until filled) Competition #936

The Family Centre requires Child and Youth Care workers for our Specialized Contract Placement homes. You will be part of a team that provides a family-oriented environment for a youth aged 16 - 18 years who have struggled in traditional residential settings. You will provide care and supervision based on a relational, developmental therapeutic model.
DUTIES
Include case management, counselling and support, community integration, light household cleaning and maintenance and meal preparation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma/Degree in Human Services or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 year experience (preferably residential)
- Standard First Aid and CPR certificate
- Suicide Intervention certificate
- Completion of Police Security Clearance and Intervention Record check within the last 6 months
- Experience working with developmentally delayed, mental health issues, autism, and Tourette's Syndrome would be an asset
- Experience working with youth with complex mental health and behavioural issues, including self mutilation would be an asset
COMPENSATION
Youth Worker in the form of 24 hour shifts, compensation will be based on the current scale of $35,658 – 43,673 annually

Family Aide Workers (open until filled) COMPETITION #885
Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Family Aide establishes a working relationship with clients in order to facilitate support, community connections, advocacy, teaching and modeling appropriate behaviour. Duties also include completing administrative responsibilities such as client reports, attending staff meetings, and in-service training.

The Family Centre is looking for individuals who are interested in challenging, frontline social work, providing in-home support to high-risk children and families.
Successful candidates will have:
- A Bachelor’s degree, preferably a BSW
- Minimum of one year frontline experience in Human Services
- Good knowledge of family dynamics
- Knowledge/experience with the Child Welfare system
- Must have a passion to work with families in crisis within a change oriented, Therapeutic model
