Alone for the holidays

Holidays can be a lonely time for some. If you end up by yourself, there are a lot of creative ways to overcome the feeling of isolation.

For many who have recently lost a loved one, holiday season can be an especially difficult time of year. Holidays and special occasions often work by magnifying and intensifying the grief response, especially when the loss has been recent.

Our free drop-in counselling program is expanding again! Counselling is now available on Mondays at the Highlands Edmonton Public Library Branch from 1 to 4 PM and at the Penny McKee – Abbottsfield EPL Branch from 5 to 8 PM.

Elaine’s story

Elaine has been seeing a mental health therapist at The Family Centre for five months, but coming in for the first appointment was not easy for her. “I sat in the parking lot for 40 minutes and did some soul searching before I decided to come in. I thought surely I could figure this out on my own. I am a professional; I am a strong minded individual,” Elaine remembers.
